Since 2014 the duo has actively performed in Europe within different venues ranging from art galleries to the streets.
One of the main concerns of KAIKU DUO is to create a direct communication with the audience not only through their special sonic approach but also with their physical presence in the space.

We are always in between something. Morning and evening. Yesterday and tomorrow. In the rearview mirror, we can glimpse the landscape just passed. Everything is still before us. Being is an opportunity. My paintings reflect all of this.
I feel like a chameleon, floating, melting into the auras of other people. On my canvases, things in space and time are transformed into colors and shapes. We live in an uncertain age, full of manufactured threats and empty promises. In my paintings, these appear as gloom, as somber darkness. But countering darkness is light, the hope of something better and more humane.
For me, painting is a visual and philosophical dialogue with the world around me. The significance of space, light and color in my work has deepened over the years. I process things through my emotions; I am a kindred spirit of the storytellers of the Romantic age, whose art was inspired by feelings.

In Juha Sääski’s paintings shame is put in an appearance through social phenomenons and gender role models. The concept of shame is changing continuously; the things that used to be shameful twenty years ago, are not necessarily shameful today. Among other factors reality television has changed the culture, hiding shame has become making it public.
In Sääski’s paintings shameful means for instance how we have let the structures of our societies change under command of economy at the expense of human values, dreams and future hope.
A limited amount of humour in Sääski’s paintings is acting as a symbol of hope.
Juha Sääski is showing distanced metaphors of different forms of shame and its social connections through surreal and absurd associations. But nevertheless they are not too far removed from the view of everyday life.
The cliches and naive elements used by Sääski are included in the means of comedy, which show the nature of things and phenomenons in a new, but not a joking viewpoint. Sääski’s aim in juxtaposing the tragicomic, contrary elements is to express the paradox of human existence universally applicable.
Juha Sääski is a Finnish visual artist, who has arranged five solo exhibitions in Germany: Nuremberg, Ulm and Berlin. This exhibition is his third in Berlin. Sääski has participated in eight group exhibitions in Germany, for instance in Munich, Berlin, Viernheim, Mannheim and in Ludwig Museum Koblenz.

In Juha Sääskis Bildern zeigt sich Schande anhand von gesellschaftlichen Phänomenen und Geschlechterrollen. Was wir als Schande auffassen, verändert sich ständig – was etwa vor zwanzig Jahren als Schande war, ist es heute unter Umständen nicht mehr. Unter anderm hat das Reality-TV unsere Kultur verändert: dort ist aus dem Verbergen von Schande deren öffentliche Zurschaustellung geworden.
In Sääskis Gemälden wird zum Beispiel als schändlich verstanden, wie wir die Veränderung der Strukturen unserer Gesellschaften unter dem Diktat der Wirtschaft zugelassen haben, auf Kosten menschlicher Werte, unserer Träume und des Glaubens in eine Zukunft.
Humor fungiert in den Sääskis Gemälden als ein Symbol der Hoffnung.
In seinen Bildern zeigt Juha Sääski distanzierte Metaphern von Schande und ihrer sozialen Kontexte in surrealistischen und absurden Anspielungen. Gleichzeitig bewahren sie die Nähe zur Alltagsrealität.
Die von Sääski verwendeten Klischees und naiven Elemente arbeiten mit den Mitteln der Komik, mit deren Hilfe der Charakter der Dinge und Phänomene sich unter einem neuen Blickwinkel zeigt, ohne jedoch ins Scherzhafte abzudriften.
Indem er tragikomische und widersprüchliche Elemente nebeneinander setzt, drückt er die allgemeine Paradoxie menschlicher Existenz aus.
Juha Sääski ist ein finnischer bildender Künstler, der in Deutschland fünf Einzelausstellungen ausgerichtet hat (in Nürnberg, Ulm und Berlin). Schändlich / Shameful ist seine dritte Ausstellung in Berlin. Sääski hat in Deutschland an acht Gruppen- und Gemeinschaftsausstellungen teilgenommen, unter anderem in München, Berlin, Viernheim, Mannheim und im Ludwig Museum in Koblenz.

Holly Chernobyl has been a working artist for over a decade — her work spanning poetry, storytelling, bunraku puppetry, and movement and performance art. Holly has shown work in Chicago, Seattle, Quebec, Berlin, Brazil, the UK, and NYC. Holly is interested in creating dreamscape environments for her audience, and disrupting the everyday. Public performances are the most exciting for her, “I want to be surprised, too”, Holly says. Her work plays with tension between the beautiful and the grotesque, attraction and repulsion. In 2014, she was honored to be a Featured Artist in the Chicago Artist’s Month festival, and is the recipient of a 2015 DCASE Individual Artist Award, both presented to her by the City of Chicago.

The Circular Valley is inspired by Paul Bowles’ story of the same name, concerning a non-being bound to a space in South America, which inhabits being’s bodies. The Atlájala is curious, and seeks sensation. What happens when the Atlájala tries on human bodies?
“…the floor to this ramshackle civilization that we have built cannot bear much longer our weight. It was Bowles’s genius to suggest the horrors which lie beneath that floor, as fragile, as the sky that shelters us from a devouring vastness.”
This work of dance/theater draws from butoh, belly dance, pop ‘n lock and tutting, and Balinese dance.

Z o e D a r l i n g
Zoe Darling lives and works in Lucerne, Switzerland and comes from London England. Over the last decade she has been involved in numerous exhibitions and performances from experimental music events, collaborative installations, artistic research symposiums, punk-rock tours and other adventures. Her work spans various media but predominantly focuses on movement and performance. She was recently the recipient of the Cité des Arts vis-arts-Atelier grant and will be going to work in Paris for 6 months in 2017.

My current work investigates the relationship between objects and performance. I create small vignettes or scenes using movement, costumes and props. I seek to invent and generate work from a collage of different elements – theoretical, historical and personal – to create work that has a poetic narrative and a theatrical presence.

of abyss, sense of non-duality and hidden characters in the darkness of body.

Entering the space without papers is a performative experiment based on butoh improvisation. Performance is asking questions without asking anything. It’s showing some papers without having them and its loosing the sense of cultural norms without understanding them in the first place.

Hannu Lukin is a Finnish artist, painting a large scale works with oil on canvas. In recent years he has been traveling around Europe and Asia, painting portraits of the locals. In his journeys, painting worked as a way to communicate and connect with people, when there was no shared language.
Meeri Lukin is an artist working with sound and video. Her works are poetic, audiovisual narrations about themes such as value of human life, and fear and hope in the era of global eco-catastrophes.

I am developing work that I have recently been working on as part of an Arts Council of Wales funded project looking at the use of algorithms and generative systems in the production of music.
I am exploring how similar techniques can be used to produce sound responsive visuals within live performances, particularly focusing on the use of noise within image generation.
I am particularly interested in the relationship that this ‘automatic’ approach within my digital work relates to Marja Bonada’s ‘automatic’ painting technique.
My woodcuts were originally inspired by a trip to Berlin and the Bauhaus architecture. Buildings which embodied the notion of bringing art and craft to the everyday life of the city. Working alongside Maija in Finland before has inspired a notion of the domestic in my work. By using rolling pins and other wooden objects to print scenes of rural landscapes, I am inserting a story into the objects and imagery, which is subverted by the comic speech bubbles and exclamations to create a menacing undercurrent in the rural idyll.
To me these Pendulum Drawings are drawings done by the Earth. They are a trace of the rotation of the Earth, and the forces that act on the pendulum. They illustrate the balance that exists in nature, it is nothing to do with humans, how this balance exists, we often only disturb and upset it. But this same balance exists within us as well.
Whatever we do, or don’t do, the world will keep on turning in its regular harmonious way, with its own rules that always work perfectly. Making these drawings has made me realise that fundamental fact of the Universe it is perfect, and if it ever goes out of balance, it corrects itself, and that imbalance and re-balancing is part of the pattern of life.
At the centre of Maija Helasvuo’s art, are the different levels of human feeling. Her sculptures picture peoples basic emotional dynamic; loss, vulnerability, closeness and our dependence on social interaction. Each person is a part of the complete community of humanity. Through communal experience and all the social forms within it, the process of an event is formed, the connection and interaction of which makes up the whole content of human society.
That which acts on the powerful emotions inside society as a directing force is in one way or another a common factor and causes a process of emotional adaptation. Things that happen in our environment affect us. Helasvuo’s sculptures picture this invisible influence, which is at once adaptable and concrete.

Ich entwickle derzeit eine Arbeit, mit der ich im Rahmen eines vom Arts Council of Wales finanzierten Projektes in letzter Zeit begonnen habe, in der es um Algorithmen und generative Systeme in der Musikproduktion geht.
Ich versuche herauszufinden, wie solche Techniken verwendet werden können, um Visuals in Live-Perfomances zu erzeugen, die auf Soundimpulse reagieren. Dabei nehme ich Geräusche bei der Erzeugung von Bildern in den Blick.
Mich interessiert hier besonders, wie diese „automatische“ Herangehensweise in meiner digitalen Arbeit mit Marja Bonadas „automatischer“ Maltechnik korrespondiert.
Eine Reise nach Berlin und die Bauhaus-Architektur haben mich ursprünglich zu diesen Holzschnitten inspiriert. Gebäude, die die Idee der Integration von Kunst und Kunsthandwerk im täglichen Leben der Stadt verkörpern. Die Elemente häuslichen Lebens in meiner Arbeit stammen von meinem Aufhenthalt in Finnland, als Maija und ich zusammengearbeitet haben. Ich verwende Nudelhölzer und andere Holzobjekte, um Szenen bäuerlichen Landlebens zu drucken. Dadurch kommt ein erzählerisches Element in die Objekte und Bilder, das wiederum durch die komischen Sprechblasen und Ausrufe subvertiert wird, mit denen dem ländlichen Idyll eine bedrohliche Unterströmung unterlegt wird.
Ich finde, dass diese Pendel-Grafiken eigentlich von der Erde gezeichnet werden. Sie sind Spuren der Erdumdrehung und der Kräfte, die auf das Pendel wirken. Sie illustrieren das Gleichgewicht in der Natur, dessen Existenz nichts mit Menschen zu tun hat, wir stören und erschüttern es bloß. Aber dieses Gleichgewicht gibt es auch in uns selbst.
Was auch immer wir tun oder nicht tun, die Erde wird sich weiter drehen, ruhig und harmonisch, ihren eigenen vollkommenen Gesetzen folgend. Als ich an diesen Zeichnungen gearbeitet habe, ist mir die grundlegende Tatsache der Vollkommenheit des Universums zu Bewusstsein gekommen. Wenn es aus dem Gleichgewicht gerät, korrigiert es sich selbst, und aus dem Gleichgewicht zu kommen und es wiederzufinden sind Teil der Muster des Lebens.
Verschiedene Ebenen menschlichen Fühlens sind zentral in Maija Helasvuos künstlerischem Werk. Ihre Skulpturen machen grundlegend menschliche emotionale Dynamiken sichtbar: Verlust, Verletzlichkeit, Nähe und unsere Abhängigkeit von sozialer Interaktion. Jede Person ist Teil der Gemeinschaft aller Menschen. Durch die gemeinschaftliche Erfahrung und alle möglichen Formen der zwischenmenschlichen Interaktion nimmt ein Ereignis prozesshaft Form an, alle Verbindungen und Interaktionen in solchen Prozessen bilden die Gesamtheit der Bedeutung menschlicher Gesellschaft.
Das, was auf starke Emotionen innerhalb der Gesellschaft als richtungsweisende Kraft einwirkt, ist auf die eine oder andere Weise ein verbindender Faktor und löst einen Prozess emotionaler Anpassung aus. Was in unserer Umgebung stattfindet, hat einen Einfluss auf uns. Helasvuos Skulpturen stellen diesen unsichtbaren Einfluss dar, der gleichzeitig wandlungsfähig und konkret ist.
